The mission of Hawthorne United Methodist Church is to Be Disciples, Make Disciples, and Transform Lives. A Christian wedding is a service of worship that glorifies God first and foremost. As two people join their lives together in the context of a Christian wedding, they enter more deeply into the life of the church, which is the body of Christ. The pastors, musicians and wedding directors of Hawthorne United Methodist Church are eager to serve those who desire to make their vows of marriage here. While it is true that weddings have in recent years become more complex and even commercial in nature, the true beauty of the service lies in the spirit of those who participate.
If you are interested in holding your marriage ceremony at HLUMC see first our wedding policy below and the list of fees included in that document. Once you are ready to discuss a date and the plans for your wedding contact our wedding director.
For more info, please contact Allison Stanley, our Wedding Director.
Hawthorne Lane UMC hosts many outside groups and organizations. As a part of the Elizabeth community we find it part of our vision and mission to connect with ministries and outreach groups around our area. We currently host AA groups, Changed Choices, Speak Up, My Chinese Treehouse, and many others. Some gather for a meeting once and others are consistently using space at HLUMC. Rental and fees are based upon need, type of mission/ministry, number of hours and days needed, etc. All inquiries should be directed to Joe Rempson, Chair of Trustees.
Hawthorne Lane UMC has a fantastic old gym available for rental/usage by outside groups. It is one of Mecklenburg County’s oldest gymnasiums with original flooring and architecture. Recently updated bathrooms make it a great space for basketball groups of all ages, kids and adult sport groups, birthday parties and more. See our gym usage policy and fee structure here. Contact Debby Coles, facilities coordinator for more info.
