Missions

Jesus commanded us to serve one another with the parable at the end of Matthew 25.

“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

Throughout the Bible we hear and see of a God passionate for the lost, the least, the forsaken. A God who loves ALL and turns the world upside down to make things right. We join in that mission for justice and love by our actions.

Each month we have multiple opportunities for our families to participate in serving our neighbors. Keep a check here to see the possibilities as they change and jump in on anything you can help with. It makes it great fun to work together – bring your friends as well!

Let’s Help UKRAINE!

United Methodists are eager and generous to respond to tragedy. The United Methodist connection is more efficient than other relief organizations, and 100% of your donations go directly to those in greatest need. Now, with the war raging in Ukraine, there are two ways we can offer immediate aid. Out District Superintendent has a direct line to a DS there, who is buying sleeping bags and other needed supplies. Contributions to the link below will be sent directly to that office, and our District will match our gifts up to $5000. Click Here to Give

Also, as usual, UMCOR has set up a fund for direct donations.

You may contribute in these ways:

  • Online at https://umcmission.org/advance-project/982450
  • By toll-free telephone: 888-252-6174
  • By check made out to Global Ministries/UMCOR with “Advance #982450-Ukraine” written on the memo line and bring to HLUMC

Thank you for your generosity

VIGIL for UKRAINE

Almost 3 million people have fled Ukraine since the Russian invasion, with more displaced within the country as cities are shelled. Members of Hawthorne Lane Church and our surrounding neighborhoods in Charlotte are working together to uplift this nation and our world in prayer and make an impact where we can. Hawthorne Lane has already made a matching donation with the Methodist church, but invites our congregation and community to donate if they will like to support the initiative. HLUMC will match any donations from this event up to $2,000. What: Community Prayer Vigil to Lift Up Ukraine When: Saturday, March 26th at 7:30 pm – join us in prayer and camp out overnight if you would like How: Walk over, drive up, join our community in prayer. How to give: There will be a way to donate (hoping QR code) onsite How will this money be used: The United Methodist Church has feet on the ground in Ukraine. The money collected will be sent directly to the Ukrain through the District Superintendent to purchase clothing, sleeping bags and needed supplies to take care of the people. ANYONE IS WELCOME

Roof Above Sandwich Ministry 2022

Roof Above is very pleased to hear that HLUMC will continue making 600 sandwiches a month in 2022. Can you help? We need lots of volunteers to make 30 sandwiches. If 30 is too many, just bring the number you prefer. Any amount helps!

Step 1. Sign up to make sandwiches.
Step 2. Bring the sandwiches to our church, Evans Fellowship Hall on the last Wednesday of every month.

Please write the total number of sandwiches you deliver to the church on the outside of your delivery bag to facilitate a quick and accurate count. The sandwiches will be delivered to Roof Above mid-morning on Thursday. Contact Bill Horton if you have questions at wthorton1951@gmail.com. Thank you for supporting this mission!
