Holy Week Services

2022-04-10 10:30 2022-04-10 10:30 America/New_York Holy Week Services

Lent is a season of forty days, not counting Sundays, which begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Saturday (the day before Easter). The season is a preparation for celebrating Easter. Historically, Lent began as a period of fasting and preparation for baptism by converts and then became a time for penance by all Christians. This year we have been focusing on the stories of Jesus that show us Jesus as Servant. Each week we have seen Jesus step even further from the divine and into humanity, showing us how to love one another with a deeper compassion than we could even imagine. Holy Week is the final week of Lent, beginning with Passion/Palm Sunday and concluding with Holy Saturday. It is during these days that the readings focus primarily on the last days and suffering and death of Jesus. It is important to walk these last days with Jesus to help our own faith grow, to understand as best as we can what he went through to ultimately redeem us from our sinful nature. We invite you to participate in as many of these services as you can for your own prayer and reflection. April 10th at 10:30am: Palm Sunday (sanctuary worship): A triumphal celebration of Jesus coming back into Jerusalem.  Singing, waving palm branches, kids bringing praise – lots of noise and fun before the seriousness of holy week begins. April 11th-13th at 12:00pm: Holy Week Services (sanctuary worship): Quiet, meditative, 30 min-services using Taizé music to reflect on the actions of Jesus during his final days. A separate children’s service & nursery will be available each day. Holy Monday – Help your kids learn about Jesus’ last days in a way that makes sense to them. Today we learn about how Mary annointed Jesus with very expensive perfume. Kids worship with Mrs. Lizanne. A reflective service of prayer & song for the grown-ups with Pastor Carrie & Pastor Tom. Holy Tuesday – Help your kids learn about Jesus’ last days in a way that makes sense to them. Today Jesus is explaining the how and why of serving in these last days and even God from heaven gives voice to what is happening! Kids worship with Mrs. Lizanne. A reflective service of prayer & song for the grown-ups with Pastor Carrie & Pastor Tom. Holy Wednesday – Help your kids learn about Jesus’ last days in a way that makes sense to them. Today Jesus is eating with his friends and discussing what will happen. We will also look forward to Thursday’s washing of feet story. Continuing to see Jesus as ultimate servant. Kids worship with Mrs. Lizanne. A reflective service of prayer & song for the grown-ups with Pastor Carrie & Pastor Tom. April 15th at 7:00pm: Good Friday (sanctuary worship): The Great Three Days – from sunset Holy Thursday through sunset Easter Day are the climax of Lent. These days proclaim the mystery of Jesus Christ’s passion, death and resurrection. During these days, we journey with Jesus from the upper room, to the cross, to the tomb, and to the garden.
