While it may not be cold outside, there are still items needed by our homeless neighbors. One of the most frequently requested items at Urban Ministry and Men’s Shelter of Charlotte is new underwear. We would like to use the month of March to collect New undies for both men and women. The following items are being collected.
• Men’s Boxers – sizes L, XL and 2XL
• Men’s White V-neck T-shirts – sizes L, XL and 2XL
• Ladies Underwear sizes 7 to 10.
There will be marked laundry baskets on either side of the Sanctuary each Sunday in March to collect your donations. Thanks for helping to brighten a neighbor’s day!
AND don’t forget the BRAS!
You need not leave the house to participate in HLUMC’s Undie Fundie effort! Yoga for Life is again sponsoring a Coobie Bra sale. These undergarments are attractive, comfortable, easy to launder and flexibly sized. Perfect for easy distribution to our neighbors — and so needed! Use Zelle at 7042936868 to purchase one Coobie Bra for $22 or buy two for $40. AND if you purchase two Coobie Bras, Yoga for Life will donate a third to Urban Ministry Center. What a deal!
We unpack the family ornaments from the attic, we acquire a tree and string lights. We sing carols at church and in the car. We get out the recipes that came from Grandma and bake desserts we only eat once a year. All of this seasonal magic takes preparation – presents are thoughtfully selected, purchased and wrapped. The calendar requires careful attention in order to juggle Christmas gathering and extra commitments. The grocery list is carefully curated to make sure you forget none of the family favorites. We do this to welcome family and friends into our homes, into spaces of warmth, love, and festivity…
What if we were to prepare for more than just hosting the festivity and presents and lights? What if we prepared to welcome the Christ child into our lives and prepared enough room for him to stay after the tree is on the curb and the decorations are back in storage? What if THIS advent we opened our hearts and prepared enough room to receive not just the baby sweet and mild in the manger but the man and ministry that changed the world and has the ability to change our lives…

Where True Love Is: An Affirming Devotional for LGBTQI+ Christians and Their Allies
by DeWitt Hall, Suzanne.
Where True Love Is offers a 90-day Biblical exploration of God, scripture, the law, gender, sexuality, marriage, and more. After reading it, you’ll be able to offer a Bible-based defense of the validity of LGBTQI+ Christian faith. More importantly, you’ll encounter the gorgeous, loving complexity of a God who can’t be stuffed into a book-sized box.
This is a study led by Meg Johnson for all interested in supporting and learning about the ways in which the christian faith interacts with our LGBTQI+ friends and family. All are welcome to drop in at anytime. The schedule is below. Gatherings are at HLUMC in the coffee lounge.

TODAY – we still need 641 non-perishable food items and toiletries to give to Loaves & Fishes. The Mission of Loaves & Fishes is to provide nutritionally balanced groceries to individuals and families in Charlotte-Mecklenburg who are in a short-term crisis. What seems so simple to us can make a huge difference to those most vulnerable in our city. As a reminder – here’s a list of Priority Needs from the Loaves & Fishes web site: Canned Fruit, Canned Meat, Canned Pastas, Corn Muffin Mix, Powdered Milk, Cereal, 100% Juice (No Glass please). Loaves & Fishes also takes diapers and toilet tissue. Please bring your donations anytime to HLUMC!
