Worship at Hawthorne is a wonderful blend of the old and the new. It’s a combination of who we are as a people of God – people who love the best of classical and traditional church and people who love the most brilliant of the recent contemporary worship arts. Our worship services change weekly but always have elements that revolve around the Word of God brought to us by one of our pastors, energetic and creative worship music, multimedia, and the arts – visual, dance, and performing. We love that we are able to bring all of who we are together into one space to celebrate the God of all creation whether you want to worship with old familiar hymns or celebrate with an upbeat celebration song you’ll find a place of comfort and people to join with you lifting glory to God.

- The Neighborhood: Hawthorne Lane is located in the beautiful historic Elizabeth neighborhood. Charlotte’s Elizabeth neighborhood is the city’s second oldest streetcar suburb. Founded in 1891 along what is now Elizabeth Avenue and boasting Elizabeth College and its own streetcar spur, Elizabeth has always been one of the city’s major business and residential areas. The present-day neighborhood includes five separate early subdivisions developed along the Elizabeth Avenue-Hawthorne Lane-Seventh Street trolley line and the Central Avenue trolley line by the 1920s.
During the Week: One of our values here at Hawthorne Lane is gathering together in community. Life is just too hard to do alone. And especially if we are trying to life a faith-filled life. Throughout the scripture we find gatherings of people doing just this – trying to live a life or service and faith – TOGETHER! Even Jesus needed a group of guys to spend the days with! Other than worship and spiritual formation groups one of the big ways we gather together in community is on wednesday nights. We call it Wednesdays @ Hawthorne (W@H) OR HOLY HUMP DAY. Each Wednesday during the school year we come together for music, a message, and mission (M3) and don’t forget DINNER! We love eating together – Jesus always had folks gathering around the table breaking bread together. We do that too – food, friends, fellowship – just a great time to be with one another, not have to cook, and to see your friends mid week. Come join us. The schedule is below – feel free to drop in anytime. We can’t wait to see you! Click here for more info
Serving: Jesus commanded us to serve one another with the parable at the end of Matthew 25.
“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
Throughout the Bible we hear and see of a God passionate for the lost, the least, the forsaken. A God who loves ALL and turns the world upside down to make things right. We join in that mission for justice and love by our actions.
Each month we have multiple opportunities for our families to participate in serving our neighbors. Keep a check here to see the possibilities as they change and jump in on anything you can help with. It makes it great fun to work together – bring your friends as well! Click here for more info
